A PUREX Spark Arrestor is a safety device installed before the fume extractor. Its main function is to intercept, cool, and retain sparks or hot particles before they enter the extraction and filtration system. Spark Arrestors - Purex International
How does it work?
The process can be understood as follows:
Machine/Laser → smoke + dust + sparks → Spark Arrestor → PUREX extractor → filters
The machine generates sparks and hot particles.
In processes such as laser applications, contaminated air can carry hot particles along with smoke and dust.
The air enters the Spark Arrestor.
Before reaching the PUREX extractor, the airflow passes through the arrestor.
The sparks strike internal plates or baffle/striker plates.

The hot particles lose energy and cool down.

The material is collected inside the Spark Arrestor.

Why is it important?
From a technical standpoint, the Spark Arrestor creates a physical barrier before filtration.
It does not replace the PUREX filters. Its purpose is different:

Extractor filters: capture contaminants present in the extraction airflow.

PUREX specifically states that its Spark Arrestors are designed to prevent sparks from entering the extraction unit.

PUREX also designs different Spark Arrestors according to inlet/outlet diameter and airflow requirements, specifically to limit the restriction the device introduces into the system
